AW Hainsworth receives ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management systems

After a successful external audit towards the end of 2025, AW Hainsworth has become an ISO 14001-accredited business.
The standard provides requirements and guidance relating to environmental management systems. ISO 14001 certification helps organisations to ensure they’re continually improving their environmental performance and taking proactive measures to reduce their carbon footprint.
To achieve accreditation, the Quality and Health & Safety teams at Hainsworth developed and established an Environment, Health and Safety strategy, which was officially implemented in January 2025. This provided the business with a framework to develop a concise Hainsworth Environmental Policy in line with best practice. The team also carried out a SWOT analysis and created a register of all significant aspects or impacts that may affect the business.
After an internal audit in September to identify any shortfalls, Stage One of the external ISO 14001 audit was carried out by Intertek in October. Stage Two followed in December, and the business passed the audit first time – an incredible result. AW Hainsworth received the accreditation on 22nd December.
To meet this standard, the business implemented several environmental management initiatives:
- In 2024 a portal was set up with Flame UK to monitor and track all waste disposal across the Hainsworth mill, including monthly overviews, scheduled collections and waste grade splits
- Replacing all diesel-powered forklifts across the site with electric ones
- Capturing Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions and achieving Planet Mark certification
- Putting software in place to collate data about waste, energy consumption and effluent discharge
This accreditation is a major step in AW Hainsworth’s journey towards Net Zero. As an ISO 14001-accredited business, Hainsworth can confidently continue making proactive improvements, reducing its environmental impact, and operating with even greater efficiency than before.
