Maximilian Raynor Uses Hainsworth Specialty Fabrics in Award-Winning AW25 Collection
Maximilian Raynor, one of fashion’s most exciting emerging talents, repurposed Hainsworth wool in his debut AW25 runway show, ‘Welcome to the Un-United Kingdom’.
A Central Saint Martins graduate, Maximilian began making fashion at a young age, earning early mentorship from icons such as Vivienne Westwood. Since then, he has made a name for himself in the industry, dressing celebrities including Lady Gaga, Stefflon Don, and Amelia Dimoldenberg.
With a strong commitment to sustainable design, Maximilian often works with deadstock fabrics, including British wool roll ends and apple leather, using zero-waste cutting techniques to transform waste into stunning garments.
From Piano Keys to the Catwalk
In his AW25 collection, Raynor transformed Hainsworth’s surplus wool into a striking coat, creating a zero-waste neo-fur coat for his look titled ‘The Fish Forager’. The fabric used for this innovative look was created from surplus material produced in our Technical Conversion Centre, where we cut fabric into washers, circles, strips, and more.
The exact cloth Maximilian used was felt bushing cloth left over from a project for one of our musical instrument customers, who had commissioned custom-cut washers for use in grand pianos. This specialised fabric is manufactured to exacting standards to ensure each piano key maintains optimal sound quality. We donated the leftover wool from this project to Maximilian, who spent hours carefully feathering, cutting, and knotting it by hand to craft the final garment with remarkable skill and dedication.
The Fish Forager
“The Fish Forager larks along the dried-up seabeds, truffling through the landfill soil and sand, mistaking apple white headphones for a flower’s roots. Mirages of nature.”
The Executed
This isn’t the first time Maximilian has worked with Hainsworth fabric. For his Central Saint Martins graduate collection, he used Hainsworth wool in a look titled ‘The Executed’, which featured a cage cloak, paired with a tailored cropped under-jacket and a panelled kilt.
Recently, Maximilian won the UK jury prize for the prestigious R|Elan Circular Design Challenge, earning acclaim for his material innovation and circular practices. We’re incredibly proud to have supported him on this journey by donating our punched wool, which featured in his award-winning collection. Sustainable design, creative reuse, and innovation are at the heart of Maximilian’s forward-thinking approach.
Maximilian will now progress to the next stage of the Circular Design Challenge in India, where he’ll join winners from other national competitions and Hainsworth is extremely proud to continue supporting his journey through the donation of our cloth.
