Maximilian Raynor Repurposes Hainsworth Wool on the Runway for His SS26 Collection
24th September 2025
From Surplus to Spotlight
This season, Hainsworth was proud to see our surplus wool reimagined on the runway by one of fashion’s most exciting emerging designers, Maximilian Raynor, in his debut SS26 collection, I’ll Cry If I Want To.
The collection takes inspiration from a box of family photographs discovered in the Midlands, imagined as a dreamlike birthday party where generations of ancestors gather – from a 1940s RAF pilot to 1960s Mods and 1920s flappers. Through this lens, Maximilian explores his working-class heritage with both warmth and playful exaggeration, using fashion to bridge past and present.
As part of the show, Maximilian created three remarkable looks incorporating surplus Hainsworth cloth.
The Flapper
The first look, The Flapper, transports us into the glamour of the 1920s.
“As we travel through multiple eras within my collection, we land in the 1920s with this glamorous, draped, fringed dress which uses the cream wool cut into single yarns, crocheted and hand-sewn.”
Using our white wool, Maximilian transformed surplus fabric into a delicately constructed dress that celebrates both craftsmanship and material innovation.
The Grenadier
Next, The Grenadier pays tribute to Maximilian’s grandfather, who served as a Grenadier Guard.
“Based on my grandfather, who was a Grenadier Guard, this look used a red colour way of the wool as an open backed, fringed, sleeveless top with crocheted military inspired shoulder details. I paired the piece with waxed khaki shorts and a handcut feathered hat made from seemingly unusable scraps of nylon from my studio.”
Here, our surplus red cloth was repurposed into a striking top that blends historical reference with modern design.
The Hound
The final look, The Hound, revisits Maximilian’s childhood memories of his grandmother’s homemade clothes, which he recalls imagining as couture.
“Riffing on my grandmothers homemade clothes, which as a child I always dreamed as being couture, this look examines her Houndstooth coat and deconstructs it into two pieces; a polo top (as part of my collaboration with Heritage knitwear brand John Smedley) and a structured, peeling-away skirt with leopard lace lining and Hainsworth wool fringes in black.”
A Shared Commitment to Creativity and Heritage
Hainsworth are delighted to support Maximillian, and see our wool transformed into such inventive and striking pieces. Congratulations to Maximilian on an incredible SS26 show — we can’t wait to see what comes next.
