AW Hainsworth Wins Make UK Awards

23rd October 2024

We are proud to say we won in three categories at the Make UK Awards.

On Thursday 17th October, a team from the mill headed to Durham for the Make UK North East, Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Dinner. It was a brilliant evening full of inspirational stories from manufacturing businesses across our region. It was clear that the standard of entries for the awards was extremely high.

We were shortlisted in three categories for the awards ceremony, and were pleasantly surprised to hear our name called for all three!

We received awards in the following categories:

  • Winner: Developing Future Talent
  • Runner Up: Health, Safety and Wellbeing
  • Runner Up: SME of the Year

Below we have shared the judges comments from each category. We would like to thank the Make UK team for putting on such a good evening and bringing together like-minded businesses.

Developing Future Talent

Winner

“This organisation has transformed its approach to people strategies, evolving from a lack of formal initiatives to implementing a comprehensive and inclusive plan. With a focus on EDI, improved recruitment and retention, apprenticeship mentoring, and digital skills development, the company has achieved impressive results — higher retention rates, reduced turnover, minimal absenteeism due to mental health, and a significantly improved gender balance across the workforce.”

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Runner Up

“This organisation has demonstrated a strong commitment to safety and well-being, with clear SMART objectives that have been successfully achieved and created a proactive approach to workplace safety. Remarkably, the company has gone over 2 years without a reportable injury and maintains impressively low absenteeism due to mental health, showcasing their dedication to a safe and supportive working environment.”

SME of the Year

Runner Up

“This is a remarkable business with impressive longevity and outstanding leadership. In recent years, the company has demonstrated a strong focus on developing and executing a clear strategy. It serves as a strong example of modernizing a business in a relatively short time, reaping the benefits through strategic investments in new technology, apprenticeships, and staff training.”

“We are incredibly proud to come away with three awards, and particularly in the categories we won in. It shows our commitment to our workforce, in keeping them safe, developing their careers and supporting them with their mental health.”
